San Diego Custom LASIK Surgery
High myopia is defined as having a spherical equivalent or a type of average of your nearsightedness to over -6.00. The VISX laser has long been approved to treat high myopia. Custom LASIK has also been approved to treat patient's with high corrections.
A recent study out of Stanford showed that visual outcomes of wavefront-guided LASIK for high myopia is safe and efficient. This study included patients with wavefront LASIK corrections from -6.00 to -8.00 diopters of myopia. These patients underwent CustomVue LASIK with the VISX laser. They were followed for 12 months after surgery.
Approximately 90% of the eyes treated were within +/- diopters of the intended correction. The safety and efficiency indexes were also good.
Whether or not you are a candidate for high myopia LASIK is dependent on many variables. Dr. Pham would be happy to examine you and let you know if you are a candidate. Some of the variables to consider for custom high myopia LASIK eye surgery in San Diego is the thickness of your cornea, the corneal maps of your eyes, and the amount of your correction. If you are not a candidate for high myopia LASIK surgery we may consider PRK, non custom LASIK, or the implantable contact lens at the San Diego LASIK Institute.
